Ninety five counties, two thousand miles

Something that I never got around to posting is that I found a route through all ninety five counties. it’s just under two thousand miles, or sixty hours of driving. Thats mostly on two lanes, very little interstate. Who’s coming with me?

Long story short the weekend rocked. Dark Knight is wonderfull. West World was amazing. The Roller Girls were as much fun as always.

But it all seems a million years ago now.

Roadtrips

I was going to go to bed but saw that I needed to run a load of laundry so I’m back. Yesterday there was a post at ar15.com asking how many states have you been to. Of course this kind of poll is probably heavily weighted because people who have no interest in travel probably aren’t even going to look at the post, but over thirty percent of the respondents had visited at least thirty states. One poster claimed to have spent at least three months in every state. Wow. It got me thinking the 48 state trip. I googled it and it appears that there are a couple of routes that are under seven thousand miles. One group that is under way currently is planning on doing it in 5 days on 135 gallons of diesel in a TDI Beetle. That’s fifty two miles to the gallon. I’m not that ambitious yet. For one I don’t think I know anybody crazy enough to try it with me, but I got to thinking about a trip that might be doable in a couple of days, and that I might actually be able to pull off solo. How long would it take me to visit every county in Tennessee. Maybe there’s a doc in there? Maybe a very boring doc. Anyway I guess it’s time to go play with Google maps for awhile. Or at least till the laundry gets done.

Dear Representative:

I am writing to ask that you join your colleague Lincoln Davis in cosponsoring and supporting H.R. 2784. A bill that would open more of the continental shelf, from 50 to 200 miles out from the shoreline, for oil exploration. This bill would open up 8.5 billion barrels (potentially 86 billion barrels) of oil for recovery. Eight and a half billion barrels of oil is more than two year of our total oil imports. It is over ten years of our total imports form the Persian Gulf.

It is true that it would take years for this oil to become available, which is all the more reason to get this bill passed as quickly as possible. Just opening this area for drilling would send a message that we are serious about expanding our production and potentially help stabilize this volatile market. I understand that this bill will before the full Appropriations committee soon. I know that you are not on this committee but I ask that you use your considerable influence to see that this bill becomes available for a full house vote.
